About 40 years ago, one out of 20 babies born in Oregon was delivered through cesarean birth. Today, almost one in every three births is performed through C-Section, despite warnings by many doctors that the procedure is unnecessary, The Outlook Online reports.
Southeast Portland resident Amanda Witter had her second child delivered through cesarean birth, and said that in retrospect she would have done the same with her first child.
Witter told the news source, "I figure if you have a natural childbirth, there really isn't a trophy at the end. The priority is to have a healthy baby."
With the rising number of the procedures that are being performed, more women may be searching for ways to manage their C-section scars after the surgery.
Products such as silicone ointment and silicone gel sheeting can be applied directly to the C-section scar to reduce the appearance of the mark within weeks after childbirth.
