Patients can now opt to stay awake for breast augmentation surgery

A new procedure allows those considering breast augmentation surgery to skip the anesthesia and stay awake for the entire procedure.

Though the surgery will still leave the usual plastic surgery scars, not using anesthesia will significantly reduce the health risk for women electing to have surgery. One doctor who uses the technique, Dr Robert True, told Latin In America the new surgery makes breast augmentation much easier and hassle-free for women.

"You walk in, you walk out. It's minimal downtime," he told the news source.

The key to the new procedure is Tumescent fluid. It has previously been used for liposuction as a replacement for general anesthesia.

Although plastic surgery is generally considered safe, the use of anesthesia carries small risks in all surgery, not to mention it adds a further financial expense.

Of course, some women will be uncomfortable watching the surgery carried out. Patients should discuss options with their surgeon.

Unfortunately, Tumescent fluid is not a wonder drug. Like traditional plastic surgery, there will be scars left afterward.

The use of silicone gel sheeting or ointments can significantly reduce the appearance of breast augmentation scars.
