Plastic surgery on the rise for teens

Jessica Cruz was anticipating the summer like any other teenager, except her nose wasn't exactly what she wanted it to be. She decided that, in order to have her sunglasses sit just the right way on her face, she was going to get a nose job - and she did, The Globe and Mail reports.

Cruz is just one of the many teens in North America who are going under the knife.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there were 219,000 cosmetic procedures performed in the U.S. on patients aged 13 to 19 in 2008. The news source also reports that 39,000 of those procedures were tummy tucks, breast reductions and augmentations, liposuction and nose reshapings.

Individuals that have undergone a cosmetic procedure such as a breast augmentation or tummy tuck may be left with scarring where incisions were made. Though many surgeons try to place the incisions where they will be rarely seen, patients may want to treat the scars.

Silicone ointments and gels may assist in the masking of plastic surgery scars. These new scar treatment products could help with the healing process.ADNFCR-3015-ID-19847700-ADNFCR
