Ultrasound assisted liposuction allows for easier body sculpting

Patients considering plastic surgery need to know the latest scientific innovations in the rapidly-advancing field. For example, scar treatment has come a long way, with silicone ointments and gels quickly and effectively diminishing scars that result from plastic surgery.

Another innovation is a new technique for liposuction surgery, called ultrasound assisted liposuction. The new technique allows for greater precision in removing fat from patients.

Dr. David Broadway, a cosmetic surgeon who offers the procedure, says using the new procedure is like "carving on a block of butter" rather than "wood."

Ultrasound assisted liposuction also allows surgeons to remove fat from sensitive areas, such as the neck, where many choose not to perform procedures because of the risk of damaging vital arteries.

The surgery still involves a normal scalpel, so patients could still experience scarring. Advances in scar healing, especially in the form of silicone-based scar treatment products, mean that those patients can effectively mask any scars that result from the surgery.

Broadway cautions that the procedure is not effective on patients who are drastically overweight. But it does allow for easier contouring on patients who are slighly overweight and looking for a more athletic physique.

"It's not to just volumetrically reduce people, but to sculpt people," he said.ADNFCR-3015-ID-19796734-ADNFCR
