According to the report, the number of surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures performed in the U.S. increased by a vast 162 percent between 1997 and 2008.
During that span, women comprised about 92 percent of patients undergoing treatment, and breast augmentation and liposuction topped the list of desired procedures.
To accommodate this trend, the office of Robert Rothfield in Ft Lauderdale, Florida, has begun offering a Mommy Makeover, to help women who were recently pregnant rejuvenate certain areas of their bodies.
According to Rothfield, the midsection is the area most commonly affected by pregnancy, and many new mothers chose to pursue a tummy tuck operation to achieve a flatter stomach.
The presence of excess fat from pregnancy and changes in the appearance of the breasts are also common, Rothfield notes.
While more women are electing to undergo cosmetic surgery, many worry that some procedures may leave scars on their skin.
But with the use of products such as silicone gel sheeting and silicone ointment, the appearance of breast augmentation or tummy tuck scars can fade within weeks.
